Getting ready for a trip

Getting to travel and see so much of the beauty in the world (like this orchid from Costa Rica) is a gift everyone should have access to…as I’m getting ready to hit the skies for Barcelona with my good friend Cheryl I realize how lucky I am. I’m going to share some stories through this blog with you, my family and friends, and see if I can post some photos too! Traveling standby, courtesy of Cheryl’s passes, we’re headed to Montreal, Geneva and if all goes as planned Barcelona. Looking forward to lots of walking, culture, tapas and wine…and lots of good chats, meaningful silences and silly time with my dear friend.

Los Campesinos

Worn down by life these bronze figures in a main square in downtown San Jose, Costa Rica stand as a stark reminder of the history of working people everywhere. Why the city decided on this realistic depiction of peasants must be an interesting story and one I’d like to learn one day. They stand defiantly in front of the bank buildings – could that be a clue to their story?

Follow the thread

This bin of thread on sale at La Gloria in San Jose, Costa Rica, may seem ordinary but it caught my eye as ‘art trouvé’ . While I wasn’t able to capture the brilliance of the colours it was worth a try and shows why it’s always good to have a camera handy.

Manic Pink

In Costa Rica ‘sweet 15’ is celebrated for girls and bright pink is a favourite colour right now. This manic shade of pink caught my eye and this custom made cake decoration has 15 little dolls if you count carefully.

What could be better than the first day of school?

As I watched my granddaughter and her friends joyously greet each other on the first day of grade three, I realized how much pleasure comes from life’s small milestones. One of the tricks is to recognize those moments…one that if you are lucky does come to you in time.

Relaxed or Bored?

Sometimes it’s hard to distinguish between these two emotions. Is being bored just not knowing how to relax? As you get more experienced in life you learn to savour those moments where you’re not rushing headlong to nowhere.

These two women captured at a moment in their lives in San Jose, Costa Rica’s main market might be having profound thoughts, be napping with their eyes open or be wondering why the strange gringa is snapping a photo.

Launched IWD 2012

Travel, family, work, politics or just observations on my fellow subway commuters – my woman’s eye view is what I offer.  Hopefully I can occasionally interest friends and family with my thoughts or my photos and sometimes maybe stimulate a little debate! Does the world need another blog? Of course not but here it is….
